Artist Statement: Here, I use color and light to take viewers down Oregon’s Highway 101. I encourage viewers to grapple with questions such as what is it like to travel through nature and the towns that we have built, nestled within nature? How can we find tension and beauty at the intersection of human development and our environment? What is there to say about nature’s beauty? What is there to say and feel about the exploration of a region?
To foster this exploration, I utilize framing that encourages viewers to let their eyes wander throughout the photo. I play with shapes and relationships between objects to create tension and highlight texture.
I hope that you enjoy.
